According to the most recent poll, the important facet that can distinguish Airbnb and hotels is very simple: hospitality. Everyone has heard the phrase, “There’s nothing like Southern hospitality.” Similarly, which one provides the best means of hospitality?
According to the renowned billionaire, Warren Buffet, “Price is what you pay, value is what you get.” The price can be comparable, but when it comes to Airbnb and hotels, which one offers the most value? Can you put a price on value? This idea, the ability to make someone feel at home, is more accessible to Airbnb and property management because one is dwelling in someone’s personal lodging. On the contrary, hotels are characterized as standardized, dull, aloof, mass-produced cookie-cutter boxes. Why not opt for something more comfortable, if the price is comparable?
Not only is Airbnb more friendly to the consumer through their property management and their lodging, one will not be perceived as “tourist” —where others can “get one over on.” Because one has an appropriate residence, they will not be “singled out” and they can be seen as a part of the local community. Subsequently, the requirements for having a positive experience is becoming increasingly valuable. Customers are requesting more authentic, holistic experiences with the local town and town community. They want to feel a part of something bigger. Why feel like an outsider, when one can live amongst the townspeople? That’s value.
